Objective

New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival sets out to open the festival door to a wider range of animation creators, not limited to filmmakers. We hope that “NEW CHITOSE AIRPORT Social Media Animation Award” will serve as a stepping stone for animation creators other than filmmakers to become more familiar with the festival and actually participate in it.

Submission Requirements

1.Must upload and post an original animation video file that does not infringe copyrights of others on Twitter (all animation techniques are welcome).

2.Must have a Twitter account (private account is not acceptable).

3.One post will count as one entry, and thread submissions are not allowed.

4.A maximum of five entries per account will be accepted.

Note 1:Private accounts, submissions without the hashtag, and submissions without a file will be ineligible for entry. In addition, submissions from accounts that do not follow the official festival account will also be disqualified.

Note 2:Entries will be invalidated if the relevant submissions are deleted before the announcement date of the Award-winning works.

Selection Process to Award Announcement

1.All entries will be posted periodically on the “Entry works for Social Media Animation Award” page on the official festival website below.

2.Only eligible submissions will appear on the page. Submissions that the festival office deems inappropriate, such as those that are offensive to public order and morals, equivalent to obscene, cruel, or discriminatory, will be excluded.

3.Award nominees will be notified via a direct message on Twitter. Please understand in advance that we will ask you for personal information such as your name and email address. Please note: In the cases where we are unable to send you a direct message, or if you do not contact us within 5 days, the selection will be nullified.

4.No notification will be made for entries out of the selection. Please check the results on the official festival website after the date of the award announcement.

5.Award winners will be asked to send the following materials for the purpose of festival publicity as well as exhibition of the work during the festival. Deadline for providing materials: end of September, 2023.

Exhibition and Invitation

Award-winning works will be exhibited in the New Chitose Airport Terminal Building during the festival.

Grand Prize Winner

The following invitation will be covered by the festival only if the artist is able to come to the festival and participate in the onstage interviews. The details will be notified directly to the entrant by email after the selection.
*Please note that depending on the spread of COVID-19, invitation conditions may be changed or may be canceled.

1)Part of round-trip flight cost (as per the Festival Office regulations)

2)Accommodation during the festival (November 2-6, 2023, applicable only to hotels arranged by the Festival Office)

3)Part of meal cost during the festival (as per with Festival Office regulations)

Special Jury Award Winner

The winner will receive a guest pass to attend the official festival events and screening tickets for the number of days of stay at the festival. (Travel fare and hotel accommodations will not be covered)

Hattori-Graphics

A low-resolution video artist from Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Graduated from the Three-Dimensional Design Course (Product Design), Department of Design at Tama Art University in 2000. Continuously creates low-resolution GIF animation utilizing pixel-art creation ability obtained at game production scenes and posts them mainly on SNS, while also creating music videos and TV commercial videos. Considers pixel arts as digital natives’ most free and primitive materials transcending computer games, and conducts experimental video expression at the minimum pixel number.

Futaba.

Illustrator

A Japanese illustrator from Hokkaido, Japan, currently residing in Sapporo. Started the career as an illustrator in 2005 after learning design/visual media expression and others and working for publishers and designing offices. Characterized by illustrations of various lights and soft atmospheres drawn colorfully and naturally. Won many prizes including Best of GIF at NEW CHITOSE AIRPORT GIF AWARD 2022.

Hirotoshi Iwasaki

Born in Japan in 1981. Hirotoshi Iwasaki is video artist using experimental animation, graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts with Doctor’s degree in Fine Arts 2019. His research theme is about comparing Rotoscoping with 20th century avant-garde art movement, and also focuses and explores the disposition of co-presence. He received Grand Prix non-narrative short at Holland Animation Film Festival 2015. As a commissioned work, he created animations for the Calvin Klein campaign, an animation for an essay published in The New York Times.

Regulations

Participants of “NEW CHITOSE AIRPORT Social Media Award” submitting works with the hashtag “#PostOnNEWCHITOSE2023” must comply with the regulations.

1.Applicants must obtain permission from rights holders for the music, existing characters and all other elements used in their works before submission. The festival office assumes no responsibility for copyright violations, compensation for damage or other claims from third parties.

2.No questions or objections to judgment results (such as requests for the disclosure of selection details or reasons for not being selected) will be accepted.

3.Private accounts, submissions without the hashtag, and submissions without files will be ineligible for entry. In addition, entries from accounts that do not follow the official festival account will also be disqualified.

4.Entries will be invalidated if the relevant submissions are deleted before the announcement date of the Award-winning works.

5.Applicants under 20 years of age must obtain the consent of a parent or guardian before submitting an entry. Entrants under 20 years of age will be deemed to have met the above requirements.

6.Award winners grant the festival office the right of the use, publication, reposting, public transmission etc. of information pertaining to the awarded work (work title, artist bio and image) for festival publicity without compensation.
