The festival held the “NEW CHITOSE AIRPORT PITCH 2023” as an official program during the festival period for directors and producers to create an opportunity for them to take the first step toward a new project. Now, “NEW CHITOSE AIRPORT PITCH 2023” is available to view online on the Official YouTube Channel. The festival welcomes producers associated with the festival and helps the artists.

“My Organs Lying on the Ground” is a stop motion animated film which is based on the
Japanese folk belief called “Tainai Kuguri” – a ritual ceremony to go through a cave, grass
ring or the interior of a large Buddhistic statue to experience rebirth.

Hanshan and Shide were two real-life Chinese wind-crazed monks. In Japan, numerous
painters have depicted Kansan Jitokuzu as Zen and ink paintings, and it is widely known that
in the Meiji era, the painting was used as the subject of short stories by popular writers.

We are so excited to announce the poster for NEW CHITOSE 2023 designed by Japanese Manga Artist, ICHIKAWA Haruko.
ICHIKAWA Haruko
A Japanese manga artist who spent her school days in Sapporo, Japan. Won the Shiki Grand Prize at the AFTERNOON Shikishou 2006 Summer Contest with Mushi to Uta (Insect and Song), and made a debut with Hoshi no Koibito (Star Lover). Her first collection of works Mushi to Uta – Ichikawa Haruko Sakuhinshū won the Originality Prize at the 14th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize. The Houseki no Kuni (Land of the Lustrous) series is being published in Kodansha’s Monthly AFTERNOON. Partly took part in character design for the games Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.
NEW CHITOSE 2023 is excited to announce the official selection for the SHORT FILMS in competition. From 2,157 films submitted from 93 countries/regions, 58 Films are selected for all categories. The films are screened in the New Chitose Airport Theater during the festival (November 2nd-6th) and judged by the jury for each competition. New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival 2023, set to take place November 2-6, 2023 in Hokkaido, JAPAN, announces its International Jury, comprised of six filmmakers, artists, curators, and industry professionals. The International Jury presents the awards in the award ceremony on 6th November as a result of deliberation during the festival.
The jury includes a high-profile group of independent filmmakers, including Tomek POPAKUL (“Acid Rain”, “Zima”), Nadja ANDRASEV (“Symbiosis”), and YANO Honami (“A Bite of Bone”). We will also invite other prominent figures such as Japanese contemporary artist Tabaimo, Japanese curator of contemporary art KANAZAWA Kodama, and Animest International Animation Film Festival director Mihai MITRICĂ. NEW CHITOSE 2023 announces the deadline for Social Media Animation Award category is extended to the end of July, 2023.
New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival sets out to open the festival door to a wider range of animation creators, not limited to filmmakers. We hope that “NEW CHITOSE AIRPORT Social Media Animation Award” will serve as a stepping stone for animation creators other than filmmakers to become more familiar with the festival and actually participate in it.
Please submit your animation work on Twitter with the hashtag! One Grand Prize winner will be invited to the festival.

NEW CHITOSE is returning to an in-person edition in 2023! We are proud to announce the 10th edition: November 2-6, 2023. The submission starts on April 24th!
New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival is an animation festival dedicated to animated films held at the terminal building of New Chitose Airport (Hokkaido, Japan), which connects Hokkaido with the rest of the world as an entertainment airport. We are excited to announce the 10th edition of the festival: November 2-6, 2023. See you at New Chitose Airport this year!
Submissions are now open for the 10th edition.
In addition to the official competition for the Short and Feature films, We have new category “NEW CHITOSE AIRPORT Social Media Animation Award” this year. Entries will be only accepted via Twitter and One Grand Prize winner will be invited to the festival! The deadline is June 30th (Short Films) and July 18th (Feature Films and Social Media Animation).
Last year the festival received 2,400 works in all categories. The winners were “Backflip” (Short Grand Prix, directed by Nikita Diakur), “My Love Affair with Marriage” (Feature Grand Prix, directed by Signe Baumane), “Lawless Love” (Japan Grand Prix, directed by Ryuya Suzuki), and else.
